Surprises in E-Learning One of the biggest surprises, is that so many folks are unaware that e-learning was an umbrella term, as I noted in the History of the LMS post. Bookmark feature is interesting, but with this one item – Saba’s past UI issues appear – too bad, it has an spin on the bookmark concept.epub file upload that worked, which is rarely seen in any file acceptance of other social learning systems and even the majority of e-learning solutions to begin with.

Is it me or does it seem that most vendors in the LMS/LCMS market still believe that with some smoke and mirrors, you won’t realize that social media actually must be integrated into social learning for it to exist? After all, many have a blog, wiki, rss feed, a Facebook like page, with profile, inc.

Even not having the card prior to arrival, but signing up online, gets you free internet. . Each item in the list must be completed and in many cases numerous times – this builds up retention. I have those every weekend, so why as an adult learner do I want it as a benefit to learning? Trend 2 Responsive mobile design.

More vendors enabling the use of APIs – i.e. people can create their own API and integrate them into the LMS/Learning Portal vendor’s system, this equally means you can create mashups too. This is a global issue and is not limited to the size of the vendor. Fear Factor: Vendor Pricing.

I wonder if we have truly achieved this premise, i.e. learning without borders or are we stating something that is not yet accurate? Social Engagement. Go onto any social media site: Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Quora or any of the thousands of sites, and you will see people engaging with total strangers.

Revenues across the board are up, profit margins are healthy and competition is on-going (always a good thing). Illogical – I often see systems that add features that seem as though they tossed a bunch of ideas on a wall and whatever stuck up there, went into their platform. The LMS market is strong. The Negatives. Bottom Line.
