Product Review: Articulate Storyline

eLearning 24-7

For my instructional designers and e-learning developers, they loved creating courses. Layers and Conditions – if you have experience with Photoshop or similar products that use layers, then your learning curve is less. If you like interactions, features and lots of capabilities – you will love this product. Learn more – great idea, but they failed at this too (more in a sec). Main reason IMO, that the product is desktop.

ASTD TechKnowledge 2013, Day 2

eLearning 24-7

The product comes in two flavors – a simple and a more robust. This version ($40/u/m) is geared towards the instructional designer/developer. Comes with App store and gadget store , where you can download and install into your product – the apps are like objects created by them and others, and gadgets are widget like things – them and end users; oh the majority are free, but if as an end user created one and wanted to sell it – you could.

Evolving the E-Learning Experience for the 21st Century

eLearning 24-7

What always stuns me are vendors who state they know what their learners want, but in reality have no clue, because they themselves do not see the technology and its usage among the masses. A greater number of people, worldwide are using SaaS then ever before, mobile products, tablets – especially the iPad – is growing at a feverish pace, people are using online storage, beyond just placing photos and media, and open source is continuing expansion. E-Mail.

I’ve also learned firsthand, how to make it work in any vertical and any industry. Learning Management Systems. Mobile learning platforms. Social learning platforms. If you want to track in a learning management system or learning platform that supports SCORM then you want it. It’s a product whose core focus is an authoring tool (proprietary based), but offers the ability to add users, provides a few analytics and a few reports.

Latest E-Learning Insight and News

eLearning 24-7

There is a growing list of vendors, including small/mid size that are adding talent management components that match the Big Dog systems. A couple of vendors have added HRIS modules. It is interesting to note, that many of the vendors are targeting the SMB space, especially the small size (less than 500 employees) market. What is nice is there are still a significant number of vendors who have not added it. They offer a SaaS version, but that is fee based.

Times are changing – trends in the content authoring tool market

eLearning 24-7

You work online via the servers of your vendor. I had thought that this trend would be dying out, but it is amazing at the number of vendors who are entering the space and still focused on the desktop approach. Despite the overwhelmingly number of vendors who have a “desktop only&# solution, based on what I am seeing- a result of new feature sets – this will change. Mobile Learning. Hmm, oh yeah mobile learning. Vendors to Watch.

SCORM Cloud

eLearning 24-7

Very few things impress me, especially product claims or services. SCORM Cloud is a product that has the possibility to be a game changer in the e-learning industry. When I heard about this solution, I was figuring this was going to be another – yeah, uh huh, right product. What it is though, is something that will rock your foundation and can turn the LMS world standing on their head, because now you can become your own learning SCORM compliant system.

Dreamweaver Slayers

eLearning 24-7

A novice could learn it and do some things quicker than Dreamweaver. Nice editing capability and includes FTP (File Transfer Protocol – so you can upload your files directly into your server or your LMS server, if you know the FTP IP, password, user name). I did not include the following because I believe they are more oriented towards creating web sites or IDE or not necessarily useful for e-learning; but if you like it.then go for it. E-Learning 24/7.

Rapid Content Authoring Tools: Market, Mayhem and Reality

eLearning 24-7

As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. While the assumption would be that all the products are alike, or that fee based tools are superior to their free counterparts, nothing could be farther than the truth. Templates with some learning objects? Macromedia Authorware and similar products.

LMS vendors: R u hearing us?

eLearning 24-7

LMS Vendors. I must admit I am still in a daze on some shocking data, I saw in the last few weeks (on a side note: the new and updated version of my LMS/LCMS directory will be available for download this upcoming Tuesday). 30% vendors offer at least one type of social media – from my latest LMS directory. Over 90% of LMS vendors had their sites available only in English; so the potential customer could not view it in any other language. you want e-comm, etc.)-

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. .

2010: mLearning Year in Review

mLearning Trends

As we reach the first anniversary of this blog’s introduction, we thought we’d take stock and figure out how things are going by revisiting our list of predictions for enterprise mobile learning in 2010. Indeed, many traditional eLearning vendors ventured into the market though not in the volume or with the fanfare we had postulated twelve months ago. Others vendors will quickly follow/respond. or “Wait until you see the next version!”). A.K.A.
