Time to reflect on the Commonwealth of Learning (CoL) workshop on Open Educational Resources, which was held in Windhoek, Namibia this week. Dr Stella Anthony (Australian Universities Network for Quality Assurance) gave the opening presentation for the event, and spoke about the opportunities and challenges of OERs in higher education.

As Brian Lamb said recently at the Open Educational Resources Symposium, it seems perverse to hoard knowledge in any form, particularly in the light of the current economic crisis. Many of my academic colleagues are now refusing to publish in standard publications, preferring to throw their lot in with the open access journals.

As for the SPOCS (the newest entry to the whole OER (Open educational resources) world) – I saw no mention of it. But I did hear mention of OER via attendees and a couple of vendors. I think yes, because it opens your eyes to many vendors you would never know about. MOOCs were low as well. Products that Intrigued.

Have the smokers go outside the hotel, rather than use the glass enclosed lounge, which was open to the weather elements. Has areas for video, webcasts (live and archived/recorded), streaming video, audio. Stephen is really a sharp guy and in my opinion is one of the very few folks who has a finger on the pulse of OER, including MOOCs.
