One more feature which is not required in most cases but would be much of help to advanced authors – is some way to extend/customize tool functionality through programming. What other features/functions you would expect from the eLearning authoring tools you would be or are using?

We’ve put our heads together and come up with our favourite (mostly free) tools for aiding rapid elearning development. GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) – fantastically named piece of freeware that works on most operating systems for photo retouching, image composition and authoring. An alternative to Google Drive.

Through a fortunate happenstance, I came across Jing : a very simple screencast tool that would incorporate voiceovers. And so, a screencast star was born. It also satisfies what I consider to be a basic requirement of e-learning for the modern knowledge worker: it has to be short, focused, and concise.

It’s also a great way to build a personal learning network. For example, if you build rapid elearning courses with Articulate products there are all sorts of resources available to you: Articulate’s Facebook page keeps you up-to-date on news and information. The same goes for your learning community’s resources.

I met a few blog readers, many of the PowerPoint MVPs that I’ve followed over the years, and was reminded of a few tips and tricks that I can use in my rapid elearning courses. His session inspired a few ideas that could work well for rapid elearning courses although some of the animations may be a bit too much.
