I present at a lot of conferences and workshops. Live Transcriptions & Closed Captions in Google Slide Presentations. Here’s an example of live transcription and closed captions in Google Slides. I find the transcription on Google Slides is a lot faster and a bit more accurate than in PowerPoint.

The way I use it with PowerPoint is to frame the window around a slide. When I want to advance the slide, I just click the page-down button. By the way, I ran the audio output cable into my audio input to capture the slide’s audio. Create your PowerPoint slides and save as images. Save the slides as.PDF.

I’m asked to review courses all the time and one of the most frustrating things is to go through the course and find the developer has locked every slide. I usually put a button in one of the corners that gives me quick access to slides. Sometimes, the button just skips the slide. Create a slide with menu links.

Typically elearning courses start from existing content. The guiding principle for rapid elearning design is to be intentional. Many elearning courses start as classroom content that needs to be converted and put online. We start on slide one, make some adjustments, and then move on to slide 2. Easy enough.

There are many people in Instructional Design, who may dismiss coding altogether with the argument that we have excellent WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) rapid eLearning tools that do a great job at developing learning with little to no coding necessary and that are mostly based on the ubiquity of PowerPoint.

If you want additional layouts to accommodate the different colors, just go into the slide master, duplicate the layout and change the color of the bulb. Here’s a free PowerPoint template I built for a recent workshop. The template is made of two simple layouts which you can edit in the master slides. The characters have transparent boxes that link to the next slide. Edit these on the master slide. The progress indicator base is on the master slide.
