It’s the yearly review of the ASTD International Conference and Expo. First off, this part is going to sound like I’m bashing ASTD, and perhaps to a degree I am. It is not like this is the first go around for our beloved association in having a conference and trade show. ASTD bags – always nice.

The spin is that you can accrue points by reading an article, taking a course, leaving comments, ranking content, completing an assessment and so on – varies among vendors. If someone says to me, you can create game courses, then it has some type of actual game elements. Now is it fun? Well, that is whole other story.

To me, many more LMS vendors than in the past, especially some newbies I’ve never seen attend the show. More course content providers including those who offer course marketplaces. I wish there were more LMS vendors in attendance. Usual universities who offer online courses, degrees, etc. in attendance.

On the expo side, and I know ASTD Events are going to disagree with me (err, they already have via Linkedin), I wasn’t overly impressed on the number of vendors’ booths. As in the case with any session laced event, some people found that speaker X went off task or speaker C was horrific. But overall, feedback was a plus.
