PowerPoint is not E-Learning and shouldn’t be used as your course tool/development – For whatever reason, there are people who have been around online learning for years, who still see PPT as a means for the creation of content – i.e. courses. PPT is boring. No need, PPT is here! No way around it.

E-Learning Jargon: What you might think it is.well…

Some people might convert their PPT to a video (it can be done) OR they have that production facility and shoot their own high quality videos OR they purchase 3rd party content video courses. ADDIE - Should be punted into outer space. In my opinion it has outweighed its usefulness. Great for the 70’s, in 2014 not so much.

Some lower-end, PPT + Audio tools will do well with none winning huge shares of the marketplace. This will increase the discussion of the relevance of ISD / ADDIE (see also ADDIE Not Relevant?). Interestingly, they both were originally considered rapid authoring tools but now are becoming THE authoring tools.

Now, that may sound worse, but it is actually better. Here is what will happen if people used the power of their authoring tool (sans Studio, which is really a PPT converter). At a simple level, use ADDIE, it is a starting point, and even today many ID folks utilize it in some fashion. Oh my God, what if indeed!
