Jesse saw a post where I pointed to slides from a recent presentation and he commented: A PPT slide deck is a horrible way to convey anything significant. Do others share my bias about PPT + Audio value vs. I received a comment from Jesse Ezell that brings up an issue that I've been grappling with and I would love to get some input (comments) from everyone who reads this blog. How about a link to audio, or better yet something like an Articulate Presenter or Breeze presentation that combines the audio and the slide deck?

It’s not that PowerPoint—henceforth referred to as PPT— can’t be used effectively for teaching online. It’s just that most people have developed deplorable PPT habits and now believe that textually dense PPT slides, cheesy animated transitions, and gaudy 3-D graphs are de rigueur for teaching in the classroom and therefore are the perfect choice for online courses, too. Jane Bozarth : Better than Bullet Points: Creating Engaging eLearning with PowerPoint. Session hosted by Training Magazine . Effective design using PPT as a tool. Not PPT 101. Easy to deal with. Many tools out there that still have to start with ppt Use it as a storyboarding tool, prototyping. Can do an awful lot with PPT. Most of Jane’s examples – from people with lower budgets – not the glitzy example (we need to make learning engaging, not pretty). Creating asynchronous instruction. Frustration with eLearning: Becomes dumping ground for slides,

Most people already have a good foundation for a storyboard – a pre-existing PPT slide that is being used in class. To start, make any adjustments to the existing PPT slide that you feel would help illustrate a concept to the learners who will be viewing the screencast remotely. One additional consideration is that if your screencast will be above average in length (say more than 5 mins) then try to split your content onto two (or more) PPT slides. Screencasting can be useful in distance education. Recently, I met with colleagues who are designing a distance course in

Click here for the PPT presentation by Tony Betrus and Al Januszewski of the State University of New York at Potsdam that does a great job of describing what Edgar Dale meant to convey with his cone, AND shows numerous examples of how the cone has been used improperly with the numbers added.
Judith Gustafson just left an excellent comment on an earlier blog post. She let us know about a presentation at the Association of (AECT) Educational Communications and Technology conference in 2002.

This trick works really well when you are searching for content on a wide variety of things, often I add in filetype:ppt as well to find presentations. (RFP Based on my post LMS RFP , I've been asked several times if I knew where you could find samples of Request for Proposals (RFPs) for custom eLearning development, performance support tools, learning content management systems (LCMS), elearning authoring tools , etc. Today the question was for Microsoft Project.
