The true opportunity cost is the time you spend searching for docs that should be in a wiki, having closed discussions via email instead of a discussion forum, and endless phone calls trying to find expertise in the org that should be readily searchable via social profiles. And therefore cant be an "opprotunity" cost.

Even when L&D professionals consciously integrate interactivity into their online courseware, I usually don’t think it’s all that engaging anyway. Yes, I know you can embed real interactivity into courseware via games, branched simulations, virtual worlds etc, but hardly anyone does that. The best of both worlds.
