Many portions of our industry would say that the concepts of an LMS and a learning portal (or knowledge center, or learning center, or learning site. learning portal is quite different (even if tracking of content and user activity is measured and aggregated under the hood by an integrated LMS). Creating a marketing portal is a way for all people involved in a potential sale to get connected and get the information they may need. If this still sounds like talking circles around the issue, consider this first: By definition, a portal is a doorway or a gate to something else. sales or marketing portal is the doorway used to enter through and get to the next step, which is a sale, generating leads or even converting a lead into a sale. What is a Marketing Portal for? | | | | | | | GETTING DOWN TO BUSINESS JULY 6, 2010 Nine Ways Learning Portals Improve SaaS Providers’ Bottom Line SaaS VPs and line of business leaders are increasingly making strategic investments in learning portals, though the companies may not even have training departments. Two very important reasons: one, learning portals are a strong fit with the SaaS ethos and business model, and two, they make good fiscal sense and offer multi-faceted returns. Of course deriving value from a learning portal depends greatly upon its design and implementation, which can run the gamut from miraculous to money pit. Learning portals let people access testimonials and support from their peers. | ELEARNING WEEKLY JANUARY 16, 2009 Building a Learning Portal We implemented a learning portal at work several months back, and it has turned out to be one of the best things I could recommend to an organization for improving access to learning materials. I’ve realized that learning portal creates a self-service environment for users that can’t be beat. Let’s take a closer look at learning portals… What is a learning portal? learning portal is a web site that contains links to all different types of learning and training materials for employees at an organization. More portals are coming. | CLARK QUINN FEBRUARY 17, 2010 Proliferating Portals hear it all the time: I ask “are you using portals? And BTW, I’m treating wikis and portals somewhat interchangably here, as wikis can be portals, but portals are another way of users providing resources to each other, and I see technology support for communities of practice to include both the capabilities of collaborative editing of resources (wikis) and storing other relevant materials (portals). use portal as the overarching term as well (also including discussion forums, blogs, profiles…). Hundreds? Bad usability. | THIRDFORCE BLOG FEBRUARY 27, 2009 Twitter a free research portal. maybe? Twitter a free research portal. I’ve been doing some research on Twitter , the only place to be these days it seems, and putting in some random searches on learning, specifically subject areas relevant to ThirdForce. The results are amazing and in fact could be compared to carrying out an independent survey. Ok the demographics are random, however sometimes we get so caught up in what we believe our users may want and think we really know their specific needs that we forget to actually connect with them. Like Blogs for example! maybe? | | | | | | | | | -
TONY KARRER | TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2009 eLearning Portal Integration Initially, the conversation was about having learning content appear on the enterprise portal. Many LMS vendors provide portlets, gadgets or widgets that allow for access of learning content (most often meaning courses and courseware) through the corporate portal. Assuming that your learning audience regularly visits the enterprise portal, then its great to be able to show employees upcoming learning events, training requirements, content that might be of interest, or other similar things. The interface is not really even the enterprise Portal. Great move SumTotal! MORE >> -
