Harold and I have discussed this exact issue before and we are both on the same page that Personal is really important word in Personal Knowledge Management. Studies of Personal Information Management say that what works is often highly personal. In fact, Work Literacy is pretty much this topic.

There are also several studies of knowledge worker practices that suggest that a lot of what is effective is quite personal. That said, I think there is a tendency to lean on the skills that we are good at and not use other approaches when they are called for. How can the organization capture the knowledge, learning, etc.?

This sounds a lot like a personal learning environment, personal knowledge management (PKM) and personal work and learning environment (PWLE) and PIM. Yes there are distinctions, but probably not worth considering. The same tool and method can be highly effective for one person and not effective for others.
