Remember Lotus 1-2-3? For those of us, who experienced the late 80s when Floppy Discs ruled, and then used Lotus in the 90’s, the memory of such a solution, is easily forgotten (although I did take an online course using only Lotus Notes, in 1998). I would love to know who is still using Lotus Notes 6.5.

Other options were universities who went online, via Lotus Notes. Heck, I was in a doctorate program, whereas the majority of the ‘courses’ was via Lotus Notes, the other was ILT. When I did an analysis back in 2012 for example, I had a list of 429 learning system vendors (at that time, I listed them as LMS).

An LMS can be as good or as bad as a learning platform, a PXP, LXP, skills-focused, or whatever someone wants to call their learning system. For a system and a company worth an estimated 1B dollars, the UX for metrics should be impressive borderline unbelievable. I have always disagreed with that premise. Missed Opps.

Sure you can watch a video on Salesforce CRM or Lotus 1-2-3, but people learn best when the content is interactive and mimics the product. Rosetta Stone recently dived into the adding their courses to course marketplaces in the learning system space. Where is the content that trains people on technical skill sets?

And not only do they provide the “course marketplace or content marketplace”, but they are adding content for free, to when you buy the LMS or other type of learning system. If one was to look at the e-learning industry (online learning), learning systems make up the biggest share of the space.

Take the LMS, learning system administrator role. Regardless if you have an LMS or some other type of learning system, and regardless of the size of the place you work at, if you can have a full-time administrator, I strongly recommend it. Or on the flip side, maybe isn’t as difficult as you might assume.
