Feature sets – they have to be more than PPT to Flash or add an audio clip and video clip to the course. Mobile Learning/HTML5 output – doesn’t hurt and has to be considered. I’ve seen some authoring tools that fit most of the criteria above, but whose ease of use is substandard or even really bad.

There are 124 authoring tools in my latest directory, of which 30 are SaaS or a combination of desktop and SaaS – which really what is the point of that? Even though more tools are adding the features of collaborative and peer review (more on that in a sec) they are still heavy geared towards a desktop solution. Mobile Learning.

– This means that multiple people can work at the same time on the same course and same page – it is really an awesome feature, especially with SaaS authoring tools. Increase of authoring tool vendors – More are in, less are out, but there still is a gap between good and average – a huge gap. Want a stunner?

As previously noted, there is a continued increase in vendors who are supporting mobile learning, whether it is by having a stand alone mobile learning platform or integrating it into their system at no additional charge. The freebie does not offer SCORM nor monitoring, but has social learning, assessment tool inc.
