Netscape showed up, and dominated the market. In 2000, I built my own LMS for a company, and was hired to create an e-learning program for customer training, as well as run a training division with ILT still in play (blended). Other fun tidbits AICC was the leader here, then came SCORM. Who led the market? Blackboard.

I think informal/formal was designed and suited for ILT, not e-learning, because from the days of Corporate in 2000, you could do informal with your LMS. Fun fact – the two earliest entries and biggest players in the LXP space, no longer refer nor market themselves as it. You could do it in 2000. Can I upload AICC?

Let us take a trip back to the late 90s and 2000. Now, go back to the late 90s into the early 2000’s, with instructional designers developing WBT courses (Web-Based Training) and e-learning developers. Output was AICC (boo) and SCORM. To understand how the storm came about, we have to go back to the mid 2000’s.

As you may know, Moodle started to be developed back in early 2000. Some organizations still have a big investment in legacy content that communicates using the SCORM or AICC formats. Since SCORM/AICC is such an old standard, the newer platforms such as WordPress will not support it.

I can’t forget the joke of micro-learning platforms, ignoring that micro-learning has been around since 2000, every type of learning system can do this because it is based solely on how you or whomever creates the courses/content. Use it in your marketing. There is a lot there for types of systems as I have noted before.
