Cammy Beans Learning Visions: ADDIE: Its a Process

Learning Visions

Friday, June 15, 2007 ADDIE: Its a Process This is probably an argument made in any Instructional Design 101 class; I dont think Im saying anything new here. A common one is ADDIE - Analysis-Design-Development-Implementation-Evaluation.) I dont think ADDIE and Gagne are really in the same class. I disagree that ADDIE is an instructional design model. Theres nothing in ADDIE about learning objects or the presentation of information.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Rise Up and sing you e-Learning designers of the 21st Century

Learning Visions

I thought Patrick Dunn did a nice job presenting the difference between e-learning designers of the "last century" who follow the addie method to create courses (click me, read me) and thus bored learners, vs. todays e-learning designers who "create experiences". As a result, he says, for todays e-learning designers to do their jobs well, we need to: revel in complexity and uncertainty grow their theoretical knowledge daily walk the (digital) walk thrive on new ideas Im trying, man.

Im not a big theory person. Im much more into practical application. Im not saying that these theories are right or wrong -- but they get tossed about and referred to with great relish by some in the industry. My list begins as such: Important Theories and Terms: Gagnes 9 Events Kirkpatrick Levels ADDIE Cognitive Load Theory ARCS (John Keller) Books: Ruth Clark: e-Learning and the Science of Instruction Malcom S. Im not a big theory person.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Getting Pysched for FaceBook

Learning Visions

Monday, June 25, 2007 Getting Pysched for FaceBook Im definitely feeling out-of-my element in this whole FaceBook thing. Im trying to get into it and discover its potential professional uses. Im just scratching the surface, I suppose. Im feeling lonely and really nerdy. Id like to push this somehow, but Im not sure. Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Using FaceBook

Learning Visions

Tuesday, June 19, 2007 Using FaceBook Im trying to expand my horizons a bit these days and have been taking a closer look at a whole bunch of tools out there, including SecondLife and FaceBook. So Ive got this client Im working with to help define an e-Learning strategy , and Im thinking about what role FaceBook should/could play in their plan. Im interested in how we could leverage that existing community for better communication, learning opportunities, networking, etc.

Im still a really hands-on person. Or maybe Im just too lazy and poor. Now, Im not linking to John just because he is full of praise of me (which is nice and somewhat embarrassing, I must admit.), What about Component Display Theory , Elaboration Theory , the Conditions of Learning , Learning Hierarchies , the ARCS model, 4C/ID , ADDIE , ASSURE , Schema theory , Cognitive apprenticeship , Social Learning theory , or Cognitive flexibility ? Do I use ADDIE?

Im not saying to leave the info a mystery; Im saying that Ive seen a lot of elearning that seems to underestimate the intelligence of the learner and makes every little thing painfully explicit. Im not sure what to make of it, honestly. Im way out of practice. Cammy Beans Learning Visions Musings on eLearning, instructional design and other training stuff.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Instructional Strategies?

Learning Visions

Im not just thinking about the gadgets and the gizmos that you use or the instructional design "method" behind the process (e.g., ADDIE), but rather the teaching tools themselves. Im excellent at creating ridiculous rhymes and ditties for my kids; I think I could come up with something interesting for a course. Im delighted that youre finding value in all of my ramblings. Learning Visions

Tuesday, June 12, 2007 My Personalized Personal Work Learning Environmental World Tony Karrer asked in the comments on my PLE post yesterday , Im curious if you distinguish your learning environment (tools, skills, etc.) Most of what Im doing outside of work these days involves the care and feeding of two small people, ages 2 and 4. Increasingly, Im also using deli.ci.ous , but thats mostly for work-related links so far. Im a Google Girl.

ADDIE (Analysis Design Development Implementation). The ADDIE model is an acronym: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In today’s fast-paced learning environments, the AGILE method is often seen as more efficient than ADDIE. Often contrasted with the ADDIE process, the Agile design method emerged in the 1970s and became widely adopted in the 1990s.
