The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. In my latest directory, 393 LMS vendors – global, of which 34 or so are open source systems. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. It was a myth.

An API (Application Program Interface) enables an interface from a piece of software to communicate with another piece of software (in its simplest form) or multiple pieces of software (called a mashup). Time for these vendors to wake up, or see your audience share disappear. There is a mid segment of the vendors in the LMS/LCMS or learning portal markets that offer some features of social learning, as part of their standard system or as their “add on modules&#. E-Learning 24/7. Bottom Line.

Authoring tools whose interface either looks like to was written in 1997 (thus outdated) or is so confusing, that the premise of rapid, just is not possible. Quiz assessment tools and systems, that assume everyone wants to do T/F and M/C or Short Answer and T/F only. Learning Management Systems, LCMS, Learning Portals.

When a Course Authoring Tool Built-In is not a Free Built-In. I have seen this with a couple of vendors and thought to myself, are they kidding me? That said, I have to say I was in shock when I found out that Topyx LMS by Interactyx is offering their built in course authoring tool as a FEE based solution and not free.
