One vendor asked if you wanted to learn more about their product and sent you to their help desk to notify them of errors or issues with their system (hmm, not likely to buy one from these guys). Over 90% of LMS vendors had their sites available only in English; so the potential customer could not view it in any other language.

The buzz, hype, demos, salespeople, awful expensive food, hotels that overcharge (I always find better deals on Expedia or sign up for the hotel’s e-mail newsletter) and yes, sometimes beyond awful seminars. The problem is that for the trade show (expo floor) it is just a combination of the web site you can see and the map.

Read about, learned about your solution OR. One of the most common things they do, is visit your web site.

It is a time saver, but pulling down a RFP, especially if it comes from a vendor’s site (even if that is not the vendor you are going to submit it to), can define your approach, without you even realizing it. The RFP may be geared actually to the vendor whose site you have pulled it down from. This is a myth.

This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

Then he sent me an e-mail asking that I call him. I sent it back with questions about setting up a time for a demo. Three days later, I again followed up with an e-mail stating my particulars and that I prefer setting up demos via e-mail. Now I know he got those e-mails. No response – as in days.

In my experience, small businesses (500 or less users) are the ideal audience for a low cost system. This does not mean that anyone who has more than 5,000 users should be a system in the low cost mode, but rather these systems are definitely suited to this business size.
