Rushing off, we managed to hit the important stuff of the YGuides meeting, with the circle, reciting our values, and creating a shared understanding (no, not some cult thing, this ain’t Scientology). What if we used the same tools, but created a safe space for novices? Naturally, I wanted to find the segue between the two.

Most of it came, via 3rd party providers, or what we referred to as “boutique shops” – think custom development (fee-based) that someone, company, government, institution, and so forth hired to create a course or courses. Could someone create a course at said company? Wanted people to buy your courses you created?

Learners can be asked to post a response to a thought question (or even to have to create one), and comment constructively on someone else’s post. Having the learners respond to a challenge where, in teams, they create some written output collaboratively on a wiki is a great chance for them to have to express their understandings.

For the latter group with all the capabilities there is enough there to create an engaging course that goes beyond just the basics. . For the former, you can definitely create courses and if you want to maximize it, then expect a bit of time to achieve it – and learn it. #19 Simple to create and build a course.

However, there's Communities / Social Networking and LMS Merger announcement around Mzinga. 2007 will have even more creativity around types of solutions and how those solutions get created. I love the ability to create business rules (from simple to complex). LMS vendors that created their own LRS. They say they are the most installed LRS in the world. Not sure about that, as in highly doubt it (and will continue to say so, until they can show the data to back up such a claim). Pricing is on the site. GUI follows suit.

Our overriding goal is to create a product that enables use of any supplemental tools clients choose. The third track is the approach where the LMS trails another app, as in Mzinga. A: John Stearns- For Gen21, social media is simply another analogous function that clients may choose to use in their learning toolkit.

I would add that Mzinga is another elearning company on this chart, in addition to Saba. In my own practice, I’ve done more Drupal installations (in visionaries quadrant) for learning projects than I have with any pure elearning platforms. Drupal is called “community plumbing&# for a reason.
