Back in 2000, the knock on rapid content authoring tools were they “pre-template” driven solutions. For e-learning developers and instructional designers, they were aghast and in shock. Simply put, one vendor has over 200 Flash-based templates in their product. Other vendors are falling suit.

Interestingly, a large portion of LMS vendors have not optimized their products for the iPad/ iPad2 and with the exception of two content authoring tools, HTML5 capabilities, specifically the ability to output a course in HTML5 does not yet exist. Isn’t it finally time for the vendors to listen? I know I would.

But, the reason I constantly bash this into e-learning vendors heads is this just DON’T GET IT. Yet, a majority of vendors in the e-learning space as a whole, are just not doing it. HTML5 will be available on every one of those tablets, plus they will offer Flash (notable exception the iPad).

Samsung Galaxy S is expected to be the first real challenger to the iPad, it runs on Android OS, offers Flash 10.1 Again, the iPad runs with HTML5, not Flash nor Java. True, the other tablets and Samsung offer Flash 10.1 and Java, but they offer HTML5 too. Same issue occurred with Opera – used Flash and Java.

I’ve always found this product to be the top of the line for PowerPoint to Flash course builds. It is easy to use and once you learn it, easy to push out content. And this product is by no means a five star solution. HTML5 output, publish to the iPad and text to speech functionality. Articulate. Adobe Captivate.

What I found was a solution that is a rapid e-learning authoring tool that offers easy to use functions as uploading learners and basic tracking results. ERP solutions that offer various HR modules plus Payroll, Billing mods. My take is that some systems with such features, perceive there is a market of those who are not interested in such solutions from Oracle, SAP, Peoplesoft, Lawson or Workday. The would rather have a streamlined solution. Claro enables true HTML5 output.

These customers would rather have an all encompassing solution. The downside is that some of the vendors will reduce down their L/D components and focus more on the TM side of things. Metacoon – Metacoon 2.0 - 80% of their solution is free, and what rocks about that is that these are some awesome modules. Blackboard.

The solution I looked at was their base, Raptivity Essentials and it comes with a “select pack&# called “Zest&# , which for some reason on their pricing is shown as a separate option. According to the site the solution comes with 245 interactions. In order to achieve that, you have to buy all their packs and the HTML5 pack.
