I think Im somewhat of an anomaly in the field. Maybe Im not an instructional designer at all. I think my dinosaur status as an instructional designer stems from the fact that Ive always worked for e-Learning vendors where the programming, graphics, and ID are distinct, separate job roles. I have my expertise, you have yours.

How do you ensure your consulting expertise gets communicated in a development project? I have never taken a course in adult learning theory. My current business card says Im a "Manager of Instructional Design". I have learned everything I "know" about instructional design and teaching by doing. I had expertise. And now Im here -- "Manager of Instructional Design." But at this point, Im here to stay.

Not surprisingly, a lot more activity was seen if test subjects were watching to learn (anticipating that they were to do the task later) vs. watching only. The very active area here was the cerebellum, which apparently has a big role in "motor learning and expertise". United States License.

Im not sure if the SME was reading a script, reading the notes, or just speaking from the heart. Go out and get your SME to say it like it is into a microphone and share their expertise. IDs have told me in the past that its not right to allow just anyone to design, build and sell training without the help of their expertise. I come from an old-school approach: I sort of understand the technology, but I leave the graphics and programming expertise to others. They think that only the "official" people have the right or expertise to produce good content. Tony, Id be delighted if this question were expanded to the larger Learning Circuits audience.
