The enterprise provides tools to employees that they can use as part of the PWLE. I could understand an argument that it would be preferable for individuals to be able to use the same tools outside the corporation for personal interests - but I don't see his argument that it is no longer a PLE or PWLE. Another web idea dismantled by Keen is the concept of the "long tail" - the slow but gradual accumulation of sales by niche products such as books that could never have commanded shelf space in shops but can wait for buyers to find them on Amazon. This sounds a lot like a personal learning environment, personal knowledge management (PKM) and personal work and learning environment (PWLE) and PIM. For example, Personal Learning , PLE , PWLE , PKM are all pretty closely related. Productivity This series is going to be way too long as it is, so I have to draw the line somewhere.

Stephen Downes commented on my recent post - Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion and said - I am opposed to the trend coming from the corporate learning side of the house to treat PLEs as work tools. It is an interesting issue. You have to make the content be somewhat generic since it's public.

Which kind of confirms the point being contradicted in Jay Cross's comments: Pitting individuals against corporations is not productive. Then he wonders. if people will adopt these tools and approaches over time, then as a corporation, if you want to be able to keep the content after an employee leaves, especially blog content.
