When it comes to eLearning that will look awesome on just about every kind of device (including desktop computers, smart phones, and tablets), Adobe Captivate jumped to the front of the eLearning development tool class when Responsive capabilities were introduced in Captivate version 8 and continued in Captivate 9.

A year ago I wrote a post entitled An Honest Assessment of Adobe Captivate 6 [First Impressions] , which garnered 81 ReTweets and 62 comments, and to this day is the most read post here on my blog. It’s not even this particular version that disappoints me; it’s the overall lack of vision that Adobe has clearly shown in this release.

First off, congratulations to my old team at Adobe for launching Adobe Captivate 6. It has now been 6 months since I left Adobe and this is the first version of Captivate that I get to explore from the outside. And then there is the new Actors feature in Adobe Captivate 6.

Compared to courses created using the old authoring tools- Flash, Dreamweaver, XML/HTML and JavaScript which are called legacy tools, rapid authoring tools have an edge here is a comparison of their features: Feature. Scenarios and simulations and interactive drag and drop slides are options that can help create engaging courses.

At the Adobe Learning Summit in San Jose, November 10th, Adobe showed several exciting new features from the next version of Captivate and from the up-coming eLearning Suite. At the Adobe Learning Summit, Adobe demonstrated the next version of Captivate, and also previewed the new Adobe eLearning Suite.

Probably the two main applications that most designers (I use the term designer to mean instructional designers, developers, and other learning specialists) will use for developing learning platforms are the new versions of Captivate and Dreamweaver. It brings up a dialog box asking if I want Kate or Paul's voice.
