And at the end of the post you’ll find the original PowerPoint file for you to download and deconstruct. I combined shapes in PowerPoint 2010 to cut a hole in the lid and make it transparent. I saved it as a PNG. As you can see, building your own illustrations in PowerPoint isn’t that difficult. Below is the tutorial.

Above is an example of a PowerPoint screen scaled down to fit in a small recording window. Here’s an example of what I do: Let’s suppose I am recording some PowerPoint tutorials. png or powerpoint.png. I did a quick PowerPoint tutorial & added the community logo and link to the image. A few years back, I was at a workshop where the PowerPoint team was showing some of the new features in the soon-to-be-released PowerPoint 2010. The PowerPoint developer demonstrated how to customize the ribbon toolbar in PowerPoint. Creating custom shapes is buried in PowerPoint and not easy to find. Paste as PNG.

For my demos, I decided to stick with PowerPoint to show that if that’s all you have, then you still can do quite a bit. PowerPoint 2010 comes with a background removal feature which makes it really easy. Older versions of PowerPoint have a simple feature that lets you make a single color transparent.
