If you’re thinking about creating online courses you’ve probably started to think about standards. eLearning content needs to follow standards just like classroom manuals and material. When content is standardized it makes it easier for the learner to understand and quickly process the content. Don’t be soft.

PNG (Portable Network Graphics) – pronounced ‘ping’ – is another ‘lossless’ format but is not restricted in colour rendition, making it a superior format to GIF. Be a little careful, because not all online applications – or corporate forewalls – support PNG. Where are they less effective?

Save as PNG to maintain the transparency. The other day I was looking at the AI Vault web site. ran across a tutorial on creating an envelope icon. It’s a great tutorial and relatively easy to do. However, the tutorial is targeted for Illustrator users. So I went through the Illustrator tutorial and came up with the image below.

Xerte supports popular media formats such as.jpg,gif,png,swf,flv, and.mp3. Thanks to Jane Hart , I was introduced to Xerte today. Xerte is an open source software package for creating interactive eLearning content. The learning object interface feels a little awkward, but that is easily overlooked for its price tag … free.
