It can digitize and compress an audio or video signal for transmission and convert an incoming signal to audio or video for reception. Larger files on their own may be no problem, but when multiplied by the size of the audience, it can cause bandwidth problems that affect internet service providers and users.

Besides, if you are relying on bells and whistles to engage your audience, there are deeper problems you need to address. That means I need to account for Flash compatibility. Given the iPhone can’t play swf files, I have to make sure I either don’t use them or I use an alternative format – potentially HTML5.

Replacing a draft audio file in a Video Demo can be a pain, but for software sims it is much easier to split the recording of the video part and the recording of the slide audio clips. Those are SWF-based but will be converted to MP4 when publishing to HTML5. They still didn’t like the real exams of course.
