I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Articulate and the person whose idea recognized that rapid course authoring was the way to go, establishing a considerable market even today, deserved huge kudos and a lot of money—probably got a pen. At the time, I hated it.

Sure, you can use the extensive list of tools on the market, but for those who want real power and complexity ala from the days of Authorware, pickings are slim. SCORM compliant learning object generator, customized editing interface, web based media player that works across multiple platforms, video/audio, image slides, text synchronization.

The last of the morning sessions was split into two breakouts: Harry Mellon with Dazzle Technologies talked about “Flash, Authorware, and Other Authoring and Development Tools Review” in one room and Patti Shank with Learning Peaks, LLC talked about “Articulate, Captivate, and Other Rapid Tools Review.”

Listen, Authorware is dead, so why create a product that is trying to bring it back to life with your own product? The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. Thus, ease of use is a strong requirement. Take me to the survey.

Macromedia Authorware and similar products. While some could argue that Authorware was a RCAT, I disagree. Sure there are over 100 vendors in this industry and probably 95% you have never heard of and whom have great products that can meet or beat the big players. Macromedia Director. HTML and Javascript. Name Recognition.
