This time yesterday I searched Twitter Groups to see if anyone had created an Edublog group I could join. It was very interesting to watch as people joined the group, shared their profiles and blogs, and then began to link to other like-minded people they didn't even know existed. He writes: Twitter groups are not necessary.

Of course, what I write on my blog is not institutionally checked, which is different to a publication in a scientific journal which may go through two blind peer reviews. But in fact my readership reviews and comments on what I write, and this in a way is more valuable to me than a formal review. Smartphones are disruptive.

2006 was also the year Twitter was launched. Other tools such as wikis, blogs and podcasts also began to be used in education, at first tentatively, and then as embedded features in various programmes of study. Around the turn of the century we all began to be aware of a surge in the use of the Web for creating content.
