The museum also had a marvelous European train layout. A dozen HO gauge model railroaders brought together 30 some-odd 3′ modules to form a gigantic layout at the museum. Elliott asked for a show of hands: How many of us had actually completed a module of eLearning in order to learn something? POP is more like a VIP club than a training school. Honchos from dozens of top-tier eLearning companies filled the lecture theater. Everybody was new at this, so we spent a lot of time on nuts and bolts.

Some training departments see this as learning being out of control; workers flock to it for the same reason. Furthermore, universities need to become networked to meet the needs of businesses seeking training. Social networks empower workers to engage in self-determined “pull” learning. People learn their jobs while doing their jobs.
