If you use PowerPoint, I strongly recommend you don’t. I don’t and still don’t understand the love for Kirkpatrick, which was designed/created for ILT. I see that folks take this model for ILT, then shove them into the online course builds and go, “See, it is perfect for that.” Kirkpatrick.

We as training professionals have been brainwashed, due to years of being indudated that ILT (Instructor led training) is the superior and in some corners of the training industry, the best method for learning. Retention rates for ILT are low, on average 8% to 10%, for WBT (Web based training) rates on avg are over 90%.

A PowerPoint is not an effective means of e-learning, although one person told me what did a PPT have to do with any of this? Gardner in 2000, said there was little evidence for his theory to be true, and again in 2004. Many people pre-COVID preferred PPTs in their classroom, seminars, and now with ILT and other webinar presentations.

People who were running training/L&D always viewed blended to be paper and ILT (pre-WBT). When WBT appeared, there was an “AHA moment” The early adopters recognized that web-based training not only could work, but could do a better job at training and learning, that the current mode of ILT and paper. Why, when our ILT has been so successful? I’ve been there – well, not hating it – I always thought it was the way to go (even in 2000). If you are moving from ILT to e-learning, then increase your user base. After all, e-learning opens up a lot of doors for you, more so than just ILT. I hear you.

Microsoft did not create PowerPoint as an authoring tool. How many of you, are familiar with terms such as ADDIE?
