I felt that having awards only for learning systems, wasn’t enough, because off-the-shelf content plays a huge role. In all seriousness, without content you wouldn’t need a learning system of any sort, just give folks binders of paper (like the old days). After all, without content what do you have?

Based on some exploration, it is clear to me they have a couple of routes to go in terms of the system. I base it on a couple of observations notably that the person who runs learning products for Amazon comes from a learning system that is a content curator. At least not by the end of 2019, let alone 2020. .

AICC is dropping by the wayside with learning systems, which could create challenges for folks who have 3rd party libraries of only AICC content. LRSs not being utilized by vendors who have it in their systems. Web conferencing Zoom is being integrated into more learning systems that in the past.

As learning standards experts here at Rustici Software , we know that the standards like SCORM, xAPI, cmi5, and AICC by and large remain constant and unchanged year over year. It’s interesting to think that it’s nearly 2020 and we still use the same thing to access and consume content online since the early 1990s: web browsers.

LinkedIn Learning to me is a digital learning platform. Does it belong in the Top 50 Learning Systems for 2020? Download Course Package is the ability to download AICC, but you can’t upload AICC nor any course standard for that matter. I enjoyed overall most of LinkedIn Learning.

The LEP space is now the 2nd largest segment in the learning system space (LMSs are still first). One area I am seeing trend wise are learning environment and administrative features starting to mimic LMSs (not 100% in some cases, but pretty close). . Gamification is in stagnation mode in the entire learning system space. .
