Encore – Moodle: Pros, Challenges

State of the LMS 2012

Do you have a LMS/LCMS/Learning Platform. One important data point here – the term “LCMS” is on its deathbed. Back in the early 2000′s, LMSs often had content mgt features built within their system, but called themselves learning management systems. Too me, that is not truly mobile learning.

Interestingly, it's Xyleme - an LCMS vendor that is sponsoring the site. Actually, the Horizon Report putting it at 2 to 3 years is probably optimistic at best. Much like games for learning - I believe in the impact, but the amount of discussion is far greater than the reality of use. I call it working smarter.

When you toss in ad-hoc reporting and filters for assessment data, it adds another push. The only real gain for survey tools – specifically polling – is the mobile real time polling option, but even then, it is starting to slide into some learning platforms. Bottom Line. E-mail notification – becoming very common.
