What is the plan for DISC, xAPI, and ADL?

Towards the end of last year, our big announcement was the formation of the not-for-profit Consortium formed to handle the governance and address the evolution of xAPI with/for ADL. doesn’t require ADL’s permission for us to do this. All the same, ADL’s done an amazing job stewarding xAPI through its R&D roots to now and to whatever degree we can work in concert with ADL (and US DoD, by extension) it’s to our collective benefit to do so.

Once mobile devices started to become popular the promise of being able to have everything on our devices, including learning programs, was right on the heels. We did not create this, it is a proof of concept created by Advanced Distributed Learning ( ADL ) and made freely available.

Tin Can will also cause us to think more analytically about our learning programs now that we have more data and visibility into a broader set of learning activities. Traditional vendors are largely adopting at the SCORM parity level and using Tin Can as a better way to track formal training programs. For instance, as a result of a sales training program, we will capture data from a CRM to see if the training had any affect.

Two years ago we answered a BAA from ADL to conduct research for updating the DoDI 1322.26- “Development, Management, and Delivery of Distributed Learning.”. Spoiler Alert – ADL accepted our proposal and we were awarded a contract to dig further into what an updated Instruction might look like and how it might be implemented.
