SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a standardized model for content distribution and reuse that enables synchronized delivery of learning materials to computer-based training (CBT) systems. There are also other standards like xapi, also known as an experience api (tin can api), cmi5 and AICC for advanced capabilities.

As a result, you have to have really two versions of the same course with a browser sniffer, so those using IE as a browser went to the version without Java, and those using Netscape went to the version with Java. Output was AICC (boo) and SCORM. We all remember the Java fight, between Netscape and Microsoft.

Fun fact – the two earliest entries and biggest players in the LXP space, no longer refer nor market themselves as it. Unless you are truly a talent development platform, which makes up 50% or more of your system, but learning is in there – you can refer to yourself as a TDP or talent platform or something similar.

It was as I often refer to as Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This is another area that frustrated me, simply because the first two learning paths or I refer to as playlists are not necessarily tied to say the skill or skills that I selected at the beginning.
