You could use any of the many authoring tools, such as Authorware, but you needed an appropriate player. The problem with committee work is well known; in this case vendors who participated wanted the standard to make it easy for their content to be made compliant. Learning Standards. Not necessarily. However, ND never hit its stride and had the potential to do so – the very first vendor, whereas you could use part of it via a jump drive (true). I was using DazzlerMax and Authorware, which are superior offerings for creating courses. Adobe was the first vendor to use templates to create courses. There was solid ARR.

My latest take on those three vendors (plus one) are: Cornerstone On Demand – I have seen the new UI and I like what I saw. The problem though is it is not throughout the entire system, rather it is in a few areas. They also have a lot of partnerships with LMS vendors – so that adds to an additional distribution channel. .

Because the industry as a whole is a lemming, I expect more vendors to come on board. The problem has been (in the past) that the rapid content authoring tools have avoided adding it as a component. The problem though is it is extremely basic. Well some vendors have more than 15 come with their product. HTML5 output.

I suspect some vendors might tie it together in some pricing approach, giving an appearance that it is free. . The buzz word “Mobile First” is already in play in the LMS world and now it is appearing more frequently in the authoring tool space, especially among SaaS vendors. No shock here. Yeah, got it. Lectora Online .

If I am a potential customer, I would expect nothing less to come out of the vendor’s mouth on their product and user friendliness. Some of the biggest problems. Some vendors who have failed to deliver, in my opinion, a user friendly system, due to front end or back end (admin side), or sometimes both.

The biggest problem facing the industry in the past few years are the lack of course authoring tools for e-learning developers and instructional designers. Sure, you can use the extensive list of tools on the market, but for those who want real power and complexity ala from the days of Authorware, pickings are slim. Bottom Line.
