In years past, the same dozen or so vendors competed for all the LMS market share. Nearly every vendor earned its bread and butter by selling to employee-minded buyers in HR. We have spent the last three years meeting more than 125 vendors — learning who they are, what they do, why they are unique, and who their customers are.

No need to thank me, it is my way of saying thank you for being a reader of this blog, and get ready, of this post. Many of these vendors are on my Findanlms.com platform – however, not everyone is. Besides Moodle, there are two commercial vendors that a lot of folks eye – Blackboard and Instructure Canvas.

And yeah there are vendors who will taut that they are in X list or Y rankings and thus should be included. This isn’t a beauty contest, nor a pay for play (I NEVER accept that, nor play that game, nor do I accept any referral fees or whatever some vendors offer for recommending them). Even open source systems.

It was an exciting first day, with lots of vendors hitting the entire training spectrum. You can track number of times people open it, use it and even add folks to it. Here are my favorites: Numerous vendors were unhappy that they had to pay $700 a day for Wi-Fi, that didn’t work most of the time or was slow. Leapfactor.

Once a darling of vendors who used it to show their demos, now? In fact, in 2019, I did not see one demo from a vendor on Adobe Connect. Personally a vendor can call their system whatever they want, but there are a few factoids to remember about micro-learning. Cumbersome? Not so much. You tell me, is that a good thing?

I admit have the time when I look at a few from the larger name entities, I can’t figure out how that vendor got to that part of that grid, what in the heck does that mean, and why is that vendor who isn’t even a learning system, appearing in that section of the grid over there? Opening Round. Grids are confusing.

Often, these posts have 287 or more responses from LMS vendors, each claiming they offer the best solution, given the overwhelming evidence provided in the original 2-sentence help request. They’ve hit a wall with features that don’t accomplish what a vendor promised. LMS vendors have vastly different licensing models.
