HP Slate already is in the market, runs on Windows7, but targets the business market. When you hear the term “browser agnostic&# , what this means is that the product or solution will work on any browser. But with LMS vendors jumping into the mobile learning sector, at least in some cases, it may be a tad misleading.

The LMS/LCMS/Learning Portal market continues to be strong. In my latest directory, 393 LMS vendors – global, of which 34 or so are open source systems. Folding up shop and switching to a new market: Talent/Performance Management, new product lines not tied to e-learning, services. It was a myth.

You can try to figure out about the product via the company’s web site, but many sites honestly are beyond awful. They fail to even clearly show their product, let alone present the product sans the standard PPT intro that comes with “learn more” about the solution. Right product? 90 minutes.

I’ve really been watching this space for the past two years, and while there continue to be enough products that fit within this category, I’m on the belief that this space is on the downside. I love Questionmark, its a wonderful product and it can use a “connector” to integrate into your learning platform or system.

The RFP may be geared actually to the vendor whose site you have pulled it down from. Case in point, one vendor who had a RFP on their site, for anyone to download, had statements in there – that truly applied to their product. Is it relevant to find out how long they have been in business? This is a myth.

While their are excellent products out there for event management, such as Cvent, if would save you some $$$ to find a system that offers these capabilities built-in. Rather, “partner&# is a dual revenue steam for the vendor and their partner – a business relationship deal. Why is it Important?

As the evolution of e-learning continues, the rapid content authoring tools (RCAT) market follows suit. This is a growing market with new vendors showing up, but at the same time, others disappearing. Macromedia Authorware and similar products. 43 Vendors do not have one. So nobody can see their product.

Enterprise means whatever the vendor wants it to mean in employee (end-users) numbers. LCMS and LMS were the kings.

A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success. I am seeing many vendors whose products were built for SMB (and more aligned on the lower side of mid size companies) who are now pushing into the mid/upper mid to large size customer band.
