Most of the well-known LMS vendors have user group meetings and/or conferences, including: Blackboard. Cornerstone. Adobe has an active user group community, with over 700 groups that meet regularly to discuss products such as Captivate, Dreamweaver, Flash, and much more. (In GeoLearning. blogs, wikis, etc.) Joomla user groups.

On the other hand, while Corporate is solid, it is not as high as it should be and for the life of me, I can’t understand why COPs (Communities of Practice) are still popular. LMS vendors had the option to create a video demo of their product without any sales pitch whatsoever. At last count, 25 vendors created such videos.

So we don’t believe a vendor should make a LMS a requirement to implementing a social media platform, but certainly there should be tight integration points to enable informal learning in support of formal learning initiatives. Communities, blogs, and wikis are just the start. Many vendors are turning to Talent Management.

Built-in authoring tool – If you are expecting something like Storyline, forget it – not there yet; unless vendor has a partnership with an authoring tool vendor – example: Claro.
