ToolBook authoring tool - this is the DHTML authoring tool used at my company, but prior to this I used TrainerSoft (now Outstart Trainer), which is my preference.

When I first got into designing and developing eLearning, it was around 2004, and the first authoring tool I used was Adobe Captivate 2.0. This authoring tool was Toolbook, and I believe it was version 9. I’ve not actively used Toolbook in many years. Most of what I learned about Toolbook has faded from memory.

I'm always somewhat skeptical of niche tools (see eLearning Course Development ). Many of these eLearning tools realistically are quite different than what I would consider to be the norm in Rapid eLearning Development tools. They also didn't have many users at the time. In June 2007, I added a few more rapid eLearning tools.

I learned Toolbook and Authorware on my own while in the program. I tend to be the sole ID/developer/whatever in a lot of places where I work. But there are other options out there where you can keep your focus on the macro and let developers and graphic experts execute your vision. Nothing I learned is actually applied today.
