The trends apply to both LMS/LCMS vendors. Extended Enterprise - Vendors are expanding into the wholesaler/reseller/affiliates/sales agent sector with their solutions. The note of interest is that it is occurring with all size of vendors, albeit the charge is being led by mid size vendors. Equally smart.

Compare the authoring tool market with the LMS space and you can clearly see the difference. There are more vendors in the LMS space under 10K then in the past – thus meeting the markets’ needs yet the authoring tool space is seeing a spike in prices. Fear of the Mobile Bogeyman aka HTML5. Not an app mind you.

On 11-18-2010, I was part of an online panel discussing whether the LMS as we know it is dead and if not, what is the evolution of the LMS. Thus, the LMS vendors are creating a Bogeyman – their own bogeyman, and it does not have to be that way. Far too many LMS vendors are stuck in a rut.

Can output to MP4 or Flash, I loved the MP4. It can be embed into your web site, added to your LMS, but to me the real awesomeness is the ability to add into any authoring tool. Please note they do not yet support HTML5, but again with MP4 no worries – it can be seen on any tablet, including iPad. E-Learning 24/7.

They see an opportunity in the SMB space where customers may not want to purchase an ERP for HR or a full blown HRIS and then purchase or have a LMS. The downside is that some of the vendors will reduce down their L/D components and focus more on the TM side of things. Why more features on the side of HR? Prediction. How amazing?
