For the past month, I have been conducting a survey on learning platforms and specifically learning management systems. . The data shows that what many vendors assume end users want is far from accurate. Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems.

Terminology – The use of ILT (Presentation, Slides, Trainer, Trainees). While this makes sense if the archive is an older version and you are updating it, it seems an extra step, if you pulled the course because of whatever reason and it wasn’t because there is a new version online. Graph reporting. Back to Jekyll.

The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. Write vendors’ names on pencils and throw them at the ceiling.

That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. Okay, before jumping in, I want to thank all those who attended my session, E-Learning 2020. . I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement.

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. LMSs/LCMS/CMS/learning platforms in commercial and open space continued their presence.

To boldly go where no e-learning vendor has gone before, specifically LMS vendors who are now starting to get it. . To, ah forget it you now the rest, but what you may not know is the latest on the mobile learning front. A vendor can do this without having a native app. To seek out new devices. On/Off synch.

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors). Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. I need a LMS. Task management.
