For example, there were several vendors making their debut – as in their solution – at DevLearn. Most of the times, when the person shows the card, and the vendor talks to them, it goes no where.

An additional fee of $700 per day for vendors who wanted to use Wi-Fi, which some vendors found to be spotty at best. I was surprised though that mobile from an e-learning standpoint did not crush.

The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. I mean if you say you need “e-commerce for 500 users, certificates, ability to add users to groups for courses”, that would cover about 550 systems. Write vendors’ names on pencils and throw them at the ceiling.

Nice selection of vendors – in general. More vendors showing off their products then in the past – still a couple believe that a poster board will do the trick. Wi-Fi worked a lot better, but vendors and end users still had issues inside the expo hall. I heard this happen to two vendors.

Strong ILT functions (for those who offer instructor led training). It is truly amazing on how vendors seem to think lots of stuff on the page, is the way to go and navigation is just a requirement. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. 57% offer a trial at various length, this is significantly higher than any other e-learning tool with over 40 vendors in the market. I saw a lot more folks than in previous shows and more e-learning vendors too. Equally there were several ILT vendors who had some type of online learning thing going on. Still there are plenty of hold outs on the ILT side, especially those creating “leaders” or developing coaches.

Now, if this is a WBT, why would you want to see the person’s name on the course and e-mail address? Unless you planned to use the course in the classroom, which in this case, it would be an ILT course. Trainers love it, but this is WBT – “e-learning&# , not “classroom/seminar training&#.

SaaS – I would prefer a vendor who offers SaaS only and not a SaaS or client hosted or G-D forbid client hosted only option. Notifications which can be sent through various social media; and yes e-mail and RSS too. Blackboard Learn. Nor is it likely that their departmental budget will have the dollars as well.

I am projecting the analytical part to significantly increase and to expand the capability to use solutions such as online storage (which a few vendors are offering) and product like Dropbox and CalenGoo. Requirement for the “trainer” to have their e-mail address before course is launched – why? Inability to have course be non-linear when live; it stays linear (another typical ILT feature), hint: WBT’s power is non-linear. I’m a big time fan of vendors who post their pricing on their site.
