I was surprised though that mobile from an e-learning standpoint did not crush. Equally disheartening were the number of products that were not mobile specific – i.e. via on/off synch, but rather mobile ready via the web browser. . Learning Management Systems – I expect to see more next year, but this year was solid.

30% vendors offer at least one type of social media – from my latest LMS directory. Dozens of LMS vendors, had typos on their web pages, zero screens of the system, links that went nowhere and two kicked up my Firewall warning of possible privacy collection and one had a Trojan Horse (I use a hardcore firewall and A/V).

Now, why doesn’t a vendor mention this information to a potential client, at least the first point – I can understand holding off on the second point, for selling purposes. When everyone was PC only, a vendor thought to themselves.

You see they had items you needed but they did not mention it on their web site. Skinning for additional portals/tenants, etc. E-commerce – especially those who charge a yearly price. It requires the LMS vendor to fix what is not working. E-Learning 24/7. Rather than do nothing, do something.

Interestingly, a large portion of LMS vendors have not optimized their products for the iPad/ iPad2 and with the exception of two content authoring tools, HTML5 capabilities, specifically the ability to output a course in HTML5 does not yet exist. It is extremely disturbing. I know I would.

The downer on the latter is they are cutting short the feature sets that are possible in an EE, such as multiple domains – standalone, rather than shared on one portal, with sub-portals or having incentive points. I still believe this will be a winner in 2012, and that more vendors will jump into this space. Prediction.

What I found wonderful is the listing of “chapters&# , this tells me that the folks at EasyGenerator get it when it comes to web based training course development, which sadly isn’t universal in our space (but should be). Even with a learning portal, many people have some type of database on the back end for tracking purposes.

Very few LMSs offer online/offline synch with a native app – heck, online/offline synch in general, but pitch that they offer mobile learning. . What they really mean is that you can view the LMS and courses via your mobile web browser. . Too me, that is not truly mobile learning.
