This year, I estimated a 55/60% e-learning, including some ILT vendors offering some type of e-learning component. . In all the years I have attended and have known about ATD (formally ASTD), this year is by far the most in terms of e-learning vendors, especially those in the LMS space.

Look at the e-learning market and ask yourself, if the consumer market as a whole is using this, why wouldn’t vendors in our space follow suit? I surmise that many of you do this, at least with photographs, whether it be offline (downloaded software) or online.

While the learning cloud and extended enterprise cloud are purchased by folks, I still see the platform – assuming you get all the modules as a HCM. That said, they are in my top 40 for learning/extended enterprise cloud. Saba - A solid system, but IMO (in my opinion) better suited for talent/performance management.

20 Saba Learning Suite. With its m-learning capability including on/off synch and rather solid UI, the product continues to be an effective solution. While the pricing is outrageous and the Saba as a whole seems better suited as a HCM, their learning suite is a better alternative than those who want Cornerstone OnDemand.

Many vendors service multi-conglomerates that are international, rather than companies that are based only in country x and no where else. and European vendors interestingly enough, do not follow suit. Simply put, one vendor has over 200 Flash-based templates in their product. Another vendor I spoke with, is offering 80 templates. Other vendors are falling suit. I believe that is going to change. If you have a mere 20 templates, you are going to be at a disadvantage in the marketplace. Am I fan of templates? Yes and No.

Excluding niche shows – depending as a vendor whom you are targeting – TechKnowledge is the best show to attend. ASTD International is nice, but you get everyone there, not just e-learning. Other shows are best suited for specific types of vendors in the space.
