Perhaps this is because older versions of PowerPoint (2003 or below) didn’t have as many graphic editing options as never versions (2007 or higher). However, newer versions add more abilities and previously hard-to-find options are more prominent. Fortunately, you can also save an image in several different image formats.

Insert a picture by using Insert>Pictures on the toolbar. The newest version of PowerPoint has a “Convert to Shape” feature. If you don’t see it in your version of PowerPoint, you’ll need to upgrade to the Office 365 version. Unless of course, you know how to use PowerPoint.

Click the thumbnail images to see the larger version. I searched for “butterfly” to find this picture. Double-click the background image to open the Format tab. With the image selected, on the Format tab, choose Picture Effects > Glow. On the Format tab, choose Picture Effects > Glow.
