I am constantly updating the types that exist, which would be covered under learning systems. LMS – Learning Management System – Don’t buy into the spin they were created or are still mainly used for compliance – both are not true. Here they are (as of May 2022). For me though I think it is very risky.

Too many vendors are focusing on talent/performance management as the next feature/component in their systems. Equally they are focusing on compliance components assuming that this is a huge upswing for an extensive list of companies. Types of Training (respondents could select as many as they wanted). In the next updates which I was told was in a week or two- ADA 508 compliance and Speech to Text. While folks who know CSS or have IT resources that can jump right in and do the CSS, most training execs I know – have no idea what CSS is and more importantly, how to code. Web conferencing or chat rooms – I know it might come as a shock but WebEx was alive and in full mode in 2000 and so was Centra – remember them? E-Commerce. Customized skinning – albeit in today’s market there are some vendors who charge for skins – disgusting! Compliance and regulatory.

The problem today is when you surf the web, you see all these guides written by content marketers, not experts in L&D or training or learning systems or even e-learning. In the Enterprise and Large Enterprise it is not uncommon to get pricing that is quite high, especially if the vendor knows procurement is involved.
