Fears of the Course Authoring Tool Market
OCTOBER 17, 2012
NexLearn (Simulation tool) – their uber robust sim version will cost you nearly 13K for one license, their base version (Simplicity) $999. Its nearly Halloween and with that comes the shocking and fearful excitement or lack thereof of the scariest things on the plane appearing at the movie theaters, in costumes, television and for us, the course authoring tool market. So why the fear?
State of the Authoring Tool Industry
MAY 16, 2016
NexLearn Simwriter – Waiting to see the latest version. When looking at the state of the authoring tool space, two words come to mind. Bewilderment and Confusion. Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? Confusion leads to flushed in terms of causation that some vendors in their infinite wisdom have decided it is better to jump one way than stay the course. But I digress.

Culprits.
ASTD TechKnowledge 2013, Day 2
JANUARY 31, 2013
Nexlearn. Wow, wasn’t that marching band fantastic? I loved the lip synch of that tune. Okay, time for the 2nd half to begin, so let’s go right to the kickoff. As before, please excuse text line space funkiness – WordPress app on iPad. TOUCHDOWN. The product comes in two flavors – a simple and a more robust. I focused on the more robust. Talk about a nice run to the end zone! This version ($40/u/m) is geared towards the instructional designer/developer. What I liked about it: Easy to define objects and enable them to have a lot of capabilities. FIRST DOWN.

Immersive Learning University -- Upcoming Conference
Will at Work Learning
DECEMBER 22, 2011
The conference is sponsored by NexLearn, creators of SimWriter (a simulation authoring tool). This is going to be a great conference, first, because I'm doing a keynote address, second, because I'm also speaking on Situation-Based Learning Design, and third, because this conference will have some very unique elements. In addition to me, the conference highlights other experts in learning and simulation. Dr. Richard Saetti will speak on using cinema and simulations. Brandon Andrews and Dean Fouquet will talk about mobile simulations. And the list goes on.

E-Learning Trade Shows + Product Reviews 4 #TK11
JANUARY 28, 2011
NexLearn Simplicity. I was planning on writing about emerging technology and virtual worlds. However, with ASTD’s TechKnowledge 2011, starting next week, I’m going to hold off until after TK11, to write on virtual worlds. What I like about conferences is the ability to see the latest products and hear the pitches from the vendors. Demonstrations are crucial, whether it is a 30 minute one, with an audience or one on one, with a potential customer. Regardless, you need to have your product out and showing. Yet, for all that do it, their are equal number of vendors who do not.
Bridge over troubled authoring tool waters
NOVEMBER 13, 2012
NexLearn Professional sim tool – They want you to sign a MDNA before seeing the product (In my case they thought I was an e-learning developer. NexLearn Professional – jeez starting to see a trend here? Let’s start of with a scenario. You go into an ice cream store. You look about and see a variety of flavors but can’t decide. You say to yourself, “I wonder if the Raisin Banana is any good?” ” You are intrigued, but you do not want to waste your money only to find out it is putrid. You ask the sales clerk if you can try to flavor.
JANUARY 20, 2014
I’ve been thinking about games for the simple reason that I’m keynoting and doing a panel and a session about gaming and learning at NexLearn’s Immersive Learning University conference next week. Remember the game Where in the World Is Carmen San Diego ? The game had you chasing an international fugitive, and you had to decipher clues about world facts to figure out where to go next to catch her, using an included world almanac. The claim for learning was that it developed knowledge of world facts. And this is a consistent problem with educational software. Hmmph.).

e-Clippings (Learning As Art): Reflecting on the e-Learning Guild Annual Gathering
APRIL 16, 2007
NexLearn : This one and the next fall into the category of "I like them because they are making it easier for people to do interesting things for learning." Nexlearn produces a tool called SimWriter which really makes the process of creating branching stories really very simple - that doesnt mean its easy - in fact I think one of the great lessons for people will be how quickly it can get difficult to add all the branches and nuances you want. Now Ive either gotten lazy or more reflective.Im going with reflective. Next time, remember the damn camera. Thanks guys. Hmmm.
