Macromedia Dreamweaver came out with templates. The product eventually added templates (for web dev), and for WBT with the corporate side, folks who disliked using Authorware, DazzlerMax and similar (the UI/UX was brutal and time to create was not quick), jumped over. Did I mention the RCATs were heavy into templates?

Templates, themes, debug tool (nice), translation tool (nice too). Beginners – zero tech skills to advanced – with tech skills – preferably ID and e-learning developer folks. Custom learning paths, templates. A beginner could jump right in and start creating a course. Oh, and for Adobe Presenter fans?

Yes, you can use it for many different things, and yes, Microsoft has an add-on that turns PPT into something similar to Adobe Presenter. Two problems that I see with PPT being used as an authoring tool is that to make it engaging, fun and interactive you have to use what the product includes, and those templates are a mixed bag. .
