Think of today, and Articulate Storyline fan base. A product called Macromedia Flash (being used with web sites) became a go to for course development.

Because it is Adobe – the same folks who came up with Photoshop a long time ago, who brought us Premiere – a long time ago and who bought Macromedia – again, a long time ago. Macromedia Authorware and similar products. Macromedia Director. The Macromedia set typically would toss in Director, which created an equally impressive array of course capabilities, but a deep learning curve. Eventually, Macromedia Dreamweaver came into the picture. HTML and Javascript. That was pretty much it.

This is not the same thing as picking some templates and scenarios and building, rather a strong sim will expect you to have instructional design and e-learning development skills. 2004, AICC, PENS, TinCan) would be equally relevant. Albeit there are some tools that do not work with nor accept any compliance standards.
