I see this as one of the most important features for any learning management system, open source or commercial. Innovation drives the market (regardless if it is e-learning or not). Web conferencing vendors can establish themselves to expand beyond the meeting standard. Why would I want it?

I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Open Source Systems – That have to be 100% free to be considered. E-commerce is standard, multi-tenet off the main system, with each distributor/wholesaler/reseller/sales agent, etc. Social Learning Management System of the Year.

Majority of employees access a LMS or Learning Portal out of the workplace. Now, why doesn’t a vendor mention this information to a potential client, at least the first point – I can understand holding off on the second point, for selling purposes. micro-blog great, but how interactive can this be.

If you are seeking this route, some vendors include it at no charge, the others who offer it – charge extra. Streaming video – low number of systems. Widgets – low, but growing (future blog on trends). Task management. Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. ePub publishing .

I can’t tell you the number of vendors who push five or seven years as the best way to go. The best way is three years (so past blog posts on why this is true). Multiple years deal – beyond 3. It isn’t. For them, it is the best way to go – because as noted above – it is a guaranteed revenue stream.
