I've been taking a look at an early version of RapideL's new online e-learning authoring tool, which they are calling RapideL-i. I've previously experimented with their desktop tool, RapideL Enhance, which works with Microsoft Word to generate Flash-based courses, but this is a big step forward.

Rapid eLearning Tools

As far as Atlantic Link, I believe that the eLearningGuild survey treated them as a Software Simulation Tool and that's part of the reason they didn't appear when I created the graphic above (2007). Some of them I could not get to run - which is always a bit scary. They also didn't have many users at the time.

Online authoring tools not so novel

My posting One prediction already on target created a bit of a reaction. I have to own up that I was myself involved in the design of such a tool about five years ago for the Training Foundation, at first called Lobster (for creating learning objects, right), but later Acce-lerator.

In the 1980s came TenCore, Wicat, Microtext (in the UK, for the BBC Micro) and (modesty does not preclude me from mentioning) one that I created myself called ProCAL. First (back in the 60s I think) we had Plato and, to the best of my knowledge, that was it.
